If you can master maintaining the edge, the rest will follow.

Thanks – that's really helpful advice. The reason I started off by dabbling with a shavette was because I could guarantee the blade was sharp, so one less unknown variable. The straights I'm using also started off sharp so if I lose the edge I'll know it's my stropping that's at fault. I am taking it slow and ensuring the blade lays flat so we'll see how it goes.

    Welcome to the forum.

It seems as though you have approached all of this sensibly and are already well on your way. The learning curve may be steep but you will make steps every day and soon start to climb the curve. You will continually learn something new especially if you hang around this forum. It's all part of the fun.

    Welcome, welcome!

Sounds like you're off to a flying start. I started open-razor shaving with a shavette too, but it wasn't long before I started onto real straights
I've found this forum and its members so incredibly helpful, I'm sure you will too.
