Thank you everyone! I definitely didn't realize there as so much information that needed to be considered before getting started with straight razors. I have now added a honing stones to the list of things I need to buy to get started. I am definitely taking my time before I buy anything. My goal is by the time I run out a refills to have everything that I need to get started.

I would recommend letting someone else do the honing while you learn to shave. Once you have shaving under control get a second razor to learn honing. You can do both but its a bumpy ride not sure if it's your honing or your shaving technique that is the problem. Honing has it's own learning curve so you will want your shave ready razor and the other to learn on otherwise you are going to have a few sub par shaves while learning

    Welcome to SRP!

There's a lot of great folks and info here. The library is a very useful resource.
As to getting stones for honing, you really only need a 12k to touch-up your razor. To hone razors is something you should get hands on training to do.

    Enjoy and have fun!!!

As dieseld said. Wait on learning to hone until after you have shaveing down pat. 6 month or a year. A 12k or a barbers hone will touch up your razors just fine. Plus a 12k can be used later.after you do figure out honing. A strop with crox will also keep your razors going. Lots of options. But hold off on buying a set of stones.
    It's just Sharpening, right?
