Thank you for this great site....
I live in SE MN. I have been DE shaving for 7 years or so, then dabbled with a Feather shavette for about 1 year. I became interested in straight shaving, and started about 6 months ago. Over the last 4 months, I have shaved exclusively with a straight razor. Much of the information I needed and found most helpful came from this site. The members seem truly interested in helping out others, many of whom are novices. The members should feel very proud to be part of such a classy and mutually respectful forum. I dove head on into the process. After owning 8 razors, some custom and production from custom makers, I much prefer the vintage razors. My current favorites are a C. Mon Blackie, a Sta Sharp, and a Wade and Butcher. Still searching for the optimal soap or cream, having tried many over the years, and struggling with hard water. I went with a SRD modular paddle strop. It allows me to do comfortable consistent stropping, and I find it therapeutic while watching TV after a long day. I am very right hand dominant, and found it too awkward to shave with both hands. I have found a pretty comfortable and effective way to shave only with my right hand. I have done some basic honing, but have found gssixgun to be the better route. Very talented, helpful, and classy gentleman. I read his posts and recommendations carefully. I do use. Gok 20000 stone every few stropping sessions, 10 laps spine first. Still having challenging shave days, but getting more competent now. I find that waiting 3-5 days between shaves is easier, since my beard seems softer. My other interests are fountain pens, folding knives, and firearms.
Anyway, I cannot thank the active members enough for all of the available insight and motivation.
Regards,
Andrew
