New in San Diego Help ID a new straight

I switched to straights from DE's back in march and although there have been ups and downs I'm loving this entire experience. I started with a dovo best quality so I would know what a good razor is. Then bought two zy's and a gold dollar. I figured I'd practice honing on those before I did anything to my dovo. With my shapton 1/5/8/15 whetstone combination and some practice on the strop I've been able to wreck the edges and then bring them back. It's really satisfying. I have re-scaled my dovo (because the cheep plastic broke) and one of my zy's. I made my own scales out of oak. Again....This is all very satisfying.
I stumbled across a razor in an antique shop. I bought to practice refurbishing. I've look everywhere but cannot ID this thing. I'm making walnut scales and was going to pull it off the scales but I don't want to wreck something valuable. I rehoned it yesterday and shaved with it today. Honestly, it's my new favorite shaver. Where can I post photos to get help with IDing this? Is a solingen. Beste qualitat. 3/8. Metal scales.

That oak looks nice and im with the others, id save the metal scales. Just polish them up. 3/8 is pretty small. I hear they are a bit harder the shave with. Not to mention honing and stropping. Just because of the smallness.

It's a no-name factory Solingen razor in a very small size. So long as it provides you with great shaves, that's all the value you need. As to the scales, go with whatever suits your fancy.

Solingen is not a trade mark, it's the best known cutlery center of Germany. Hundreds of brands, thousands of models. Yours is not made for beard shaving, but for finishing the neck line at the barbershop. Usually, blades for beard shaving are at least 5/8. The scale is rather uncommon, so I think it should remain, for authenticity.

Welcome. I have to say those scales are prettY nice and likely much more valuable than the blade. I too would keep them. Learning to hone and shave at the same time can be a tough journey. I chose to learn to shave and then hone, but there are many paths and they are all correct.

Thank you. based on the replies and my complete satisfaction with this razor as is, I'm going to keep it as my dialy shaver and not make any changes. It is odd that I can't find these scales anywhere. I have been switching between a 5/8 and 7/8 and honestly, after shaving with this, I can't see going back. It could be the blade itself but after 15 minutes rehoning and 5 minutes on the strop, its an awesome shaver. Way more comfortable on the chin and jaw lines. I heard they were harder to shave with but with my (3 shaves) limited experience, this is where I think I'll stay. Funny....since I got it to practice on!!

Thank you. I think I'm going to keep those scales just as they are. I like the patina on them. I know what you mean about shaving then honing. That's why I really have not touched the dovo what was professionally honed. all of my other blades are just compared to that but now I am getting as good or better shaves with the ZY and for sure this one after my shade-tree honing process. The one blade that I just can't seem to bring around is my gold dollar but I think the whole thing is warped so I will be spending some time on the spine and then see what I can accomplish. Thanks - I had fun making those oak scales. First attempt and I have to refine the polish a bit but overall, I'm pleased. I like the 'heft' of the oak and the stainless blade. i'm working with some walnut scales now. I'll post pics when done.

Check the stabilizers on that GD

Hi and welcome aboard. Check out the rolling x stroke. Many blades are warped you just need to use the strokes that get the edge. Grinding on the spine just throws the geometry out
