Hi and welcome aboard.
I am new to the straight razor so take my advice with caution. Since your first strop will probably get nicked and cut in short order buy a cheap one. I bought a new strop from Ebay for under $20. It now has some nicks but still works.
I actually came to the same conclusion. I just bought one from amazon last night for $20. I’ll use it till it’s unusable and then I’ll upgrade to something better. I’m trying not to go all in until I see if I’m gonna stick with it. I bet I will, but it just depends if I have enough patience or not.
Welcome Raven.
When I started years ago, I began with a old belt for a strop. Glad I did, for I scrapped it in short order, as well as the second one.
It taught me the mechanics of stropping, before I got my hands on a real one.
Just a thought for ya to ponder on.[emoji6]
Watch video's on stropping. Take it slow and easy. Most say you will dull your razor learning to strop. I am one of the few that didn't when I learned. When they said "everyone" dulls their razor when they learn to strop, I took that as a challenge not to, lol. Remember there is no rush or requirement to go fast. Speed will come with time and muscle memory. Have fun
