Good advise so far, but you must listen to it also, read , read , and read. Put the stone in a safe and leave it there for a while, all you need is a hone guy and learn to shave and strop, we have several good hone guys, I still use one to hone my razors. It's money ahead in the beginning.
Put your location in your profile, maybe someone s just down the road from you, one on one help will get you months of learning curve in a short amount of time.
Also if your not patient dnt even start, instant results don't happen with a straight it takes many shaves to get good, but staying with a properly honed razor will help,

Well we just happen t have some very respectable guys in the northeast of TN, not sure how far from you, but Steve56 is in Knoxville and he can hone very well, plus there are several guys out that way and in N.C. Too. Hone guys that you send the razor to will also clean it up for you. Gssixgun, Cudarunner, all do mail Eder honing and clean up, plus their really good, but if I was wanting to get a leg up Steve is pretty close, and speaking from resonate experience he can hone, In N.C? Kyle (prodigy) can really do a job too, one f the finest I gave had, contact them and see thru a PM. Tc

Wouldn't have even thought of WD40.... Thank you! Would you think of the need for a germicide like Barbicide Disinfectant for the blade?

Thanks! I figured I wouldn't be the complete package anytime soon but I would definitely want to learn the honing skill as well..... after I can shave my mug without heading to the ER.... lol

I will get in touch with these guys. I have updated my location, I didn't realize I just put TN in the location.... it was a bit late.

It's not as big an issue as germafobes make it out, if I get a razor in from someone else I just wipe it down with any dissectant or dip in Barbacide, but never again. A hot water rinse and dry then I put it up till the next time, and if you cleaning the blade, nothing is going to live thru the WD 40, Tc
