May I introduce myself.

Good evening members of straightrazorplace my name Is Mike Dufresne and I live in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. I worked most of my life for the federal Government of Canada in the field of correctional services and retired in 2010. I am a amateur antique collector and I buy and collect almost anything that interests me that I believe to be antique and appears to be in very good to excellent condition. Earlier this evening I loaded a vintage " Schulze Weyer Razor " asking for help dating this and I have received some valued advice regarding the date plus cleaning and caring for this lovely old piece. This is a nice informative site and I will try and add photos of old razors of interest as I find them. Thank you to everyone that has posted all the information I have been reading. Petercp4e. Thank you for the welcome and the wise words. I'm just going to pick up some fine fine sandpaper to see if I can cleanup an old Wosterholm razor that was in a tin in my basement. Best regards. Mike D.

Easy does it with the sandpaper. Be sure you start fine. Then 8f its not enough step down. I normally start with stealwool and wd-40. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thank you Jerry. I'll put the sandpaper aside and I'll go with steel wool to start. I tried the WD 40 and I was amazed with the results. I grabbed a tin full of razors from my basement to play with. Thank you for the advice I appreciate the help. Mike.

BTW a good metal polish, like Maas or Flitz, goes hand n hand with that WD-40 n steel wool. The icing in the cake.!

portlandrazorco. It amazes me how you folks clean, polish and restore these old razors back to life. I went to the basement and grabbed a tin with about ten old razors to practice with. Having said that those that I cherish I will never try to improve. Best regards. Mike.

Vintage and antique items, whin in good condition, have an advantage upon modern stuff: they where made to last and where efficient. So it is good sense to use them.

Yowan. Thank you for the welcome. I agree with your words about vintage items in good condition and that is always what I look for. Whenever I do manage to grab a nice anything I try to keep it where I can see it and enjoy it. That Schulze razor I'm pretty certain that dates to before WW2 but when I seen it I knew I had to have it. I cleaned it as a couple other members suggested and I have it one display on a shelf.
