    Hello!
    I have been DE shaving for a couple years now, and am wanting to try straight razor shaving. I’ve tried using a shavette a few times, with less than desirable results.
    It was recommended that I try again, using an actual straight razor. SharpRazorPalace was also recommended as a place to not only get information and tips on straight razor shaving, but also a good place to purchase a good used razor.

    Thanks for reading, and I’m really looking forward to acquiring enough knowledge, and hopefully a good razor, to make this enjoyable.

    Hi Chris, welcome to SRP. As Bob suggested the library is a great place to start.
    Until you get a straight razor carry on using the shavette, try keeping the angle about 40° from your face using feather light strokes with the grain. Remember shave the lather, you maybe pleasantly surprised.

    You are going to need a strop. Check B-S-T. In a pinch you can use newspaper or the inside of an old leather belt.
    Practice with some kind of full knife to get muscle memory. Make sure you keep it flat and in contact with strop. At end of stroke flip over on spine for the return stroke.
