Thanked: 0Hey
I'm a 17 year old kid. Yes, I will say it, I am by far probably the youngest person here, but that changes not the interest I share in straight razor shaving. For the longest time I have been interested in the skills and lifestyle of the past. A purer time, a simpler time, a time where men were men, women were women, and everyone was worth their skill. I am looking to learn this skill because the act of taking a breath each morning, slowing down your life, and entering a state of absolute focus and concentration, pamper yourself in the most primitive way.
So... I'm from new york, and I guess I'm currently looking for a razor and strop right now... I don't think I need any fancier brushes and soaps just yet. I'm on a tight budget right now, so if anyone has some idea what kind of blade would be the best to start on, and also where to find a decent strop... my budget floats around 30 dollars, if anyone has any idea, let me know.
I've read a lot, if anyone has any tips, let me know.

Welcome to SRP. Since you say you've read a lot I assume you've been to the SRP Wiki here ? If so great, if not give it a go. All kinds of great info. Here is Ruprazor which is the cheapest razor/strop combo I know of. I don't know whether it is legal to sell or give a razor to someone under 18 though. Especially in NY.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Welcome!
As for the brush and soap, I have read that the Wal-Mart set is recommended to start on a tight budget.
Enjoy the journey.

Welcome, Check the classifieds here. You may want to save up a bit. There's not much to choose from in the 30 dollar range. You can find some good deals on the Classifieds. If your in city, I'd check the village. All the shops down there, you'd be able to find one for sure...
