    Default So far so good

Hi there everyone, Im new to the straightrazor community, and have used this sight for all my research so thanks for all the help from past threads and posts. I had my first staight shave a couple days ago and things went pretty well, just a little razor burn on the neck but I've always been prone to that.
One question I have regarding honing is, when I do the hht after 8000, it's a 50/50 on whether it passes or not. Should I do more work @ 8000 or will stropping alone improve this? Thanks again for all the help, past, present, and future.
    Respectfully, Kenneth P. Poisson

    Kenneth, welcome to SRP.

I'm glad to hear you've had success in previous research on the forum and also that your first shave went well. If you are currently honing your own razors, there are tons of variables. Edge sharpness, stropping technique, shave prep, shave technique, and possible reactions to soap/cream/aftershave/switching to a straight. I would suggest that, in order to eliminate a variable, you start off with a razor honed by someone who is known to produce great edges. If you can get the razor pre-stropped, that may remove another variable. Checking out vids on good and mild products to use, as well as preshave technique will help remove those variables, and you'll be left with just the actual shave technique to focus on.

Enjoy the journey, and never hesitate to ask more questions.

    I would add only this.
In reality you don't have to trust HHT.
The best test is shaving test .try and see what happens.
i have seen razor will not pass HHT but will shave great and vs verse.
    hope this helps.

Hi Kenneth & welcome. I tend to expect a HHT pass moreso after stropping rather than before but always finish with some ultralight strokes on your 8k to refine the edge as much as possible. Of course the shave test is the only test that matters.

    Smile Welcome, Kenneth

The HHT is a good standard for me when I use my wife's clean hairs. There are so many factors that it isn't definitive. Good stropping will improve the test results, but then the standards of the test change too. Go for the shave and you'll know from there.
