    Default Hello from Georgia

    Hello everyone.

I have been wet shaving and using a DE razor now for the past few months, but decided to dive into the world of straight razors after reading threads on here and B&B and watching all the videos by Jockey, Joel, and others.

I purchased a Dovo Ebony Silver Steel 5/8" and a 2" Black Latigo strop w/a wool felt back.

I can't wait for these to arrive so I can start shaving with them!

First of all, welcome to SRP!

We're glad to have you with us!

It sounds to me like you have been approaching this the right way, and doing your research before diving in. This will stand you in good stead when you start!

From the strop description it sounds like you got your kit from SRD? If so, the razor will be truly shave ready and good to go! I have the 3" black latigo and it is a great strop.

If you havent already, give our Wiki a read as well. Theres loads of good information there which will help you:

    Straight Razor Place Wiki

When you start shaving, take it slowly and just start with an easy area of your face like the cheek and shave the rest with your normal razor. Just do one side with the straight and gradually shave more as your technique improves.

Welcome again, I know you'll enjoy the ride!

    Good luck!

I did pick up the set, along with a few shaving creams, from SRD. Don was a great help in answering all of my questions.

    Barbash,

    Welcome aboard SRP...

Follow Stubear's advice. Str8 razor shaving isn't a horse race. Take it slow and easy.

You will probably encounter a few problems initially, such as razor burn, nick, cuts, etc. Don't worry, that is part of the learning curve. Don't try for the closest shave initially, just get used to the technique of str8 razor shaving--stropping, holding the razor, skin stretching, etc. As you become more comfortable with the technique as well as more knowledgeable about the contours of your face, the layout of your beard and begin using more advanced technique such as XTG and ATG--along with WTG shaving--you will achieve closer shaves w/o any problems.

    Take care--and smooth shaving.

    Hello, Barbash:

Welcome to SRP. You've done your research, watched the videos, and now the anticipation of that first shave with a straight razor. How exciting all this. Good luck to you.

    Regards,

    Obie
