Thanked: 0Hello from melbourne australia
Hi all,
Shaving is now a joy. Ive been shaving with a straight once a week for about 5 months and im lovin it. Ive had a few knicks and the occasional dot of blood through the skin where there doesnt seem to be a cut, but i figure its all part of the experiance. I started off with a Dovo best value 5/8 for about a month, and was enjoying it. I got a bit of pulling and wasnt geting a real close shave but was none the wiser as it said it was shave ready and i was getting a decent shave. Then i bought a TI Historic 7/8, because i had to have another and whitch i belive came shave ready. My first shave with the TI left me with dots of blood every where and a face so smooth it felt like someone elses. Ive been shaving with the TI exclusively since and only get the occasional spot of blood, but still get a super smooth shave. I strop before and after each shave and think im doing it right. Although i have knicked the strop a couple of times when ive tried to go to quick. I have just ordered a norton 4k/8k water stone and will try my hand at honing my Dovo to get a beter shave out of her, and maybe touch up the TI as it is starting to pull a bit. All in all, im hooked.
Now i just want more knowledge, more expiriance and of cource more razors.
Cheers

Welcome to SRP!
It sounds like you are off to a great start, and the razors you have are good ones..!
Once the razor starts to pull or is not shaving as well, its probably time to give it a few swipes on a pasted strop or barber hone. You could try giving your razor half a dozen strokes on the 8k side of your Norton, then strop and test shave. If that doesnt work, you could try doing a 1-3, 1-5 pyramid progression, or dropping down to the 4k for a few strokes before going back up to the 8k. Just be sure to keep your pressure light and flip the razor over on the spine.
Once you get bitten by the honing bug (and another AD!) theres no hope...!
Good luck!
