Hello, ThisFella:
Welcome to Straight Razor Place. I am glad you continue to research. This is smart, because ready to purchase your razor, you will have a head start. In the meantime, if you have questions, please post them. We are delighted to have you hear.
Regards,
Obie
Thanks Jimmy
Where might I find a decent inexpensive strop to start with? I don't want to spend a small fortune on something I am going to accidentally hack at. lol
Any suggestions?

As for strops, I think that there are 2-3 vendors that offer inexpensive entry level strops. You can avoid nicking your strop by securing it well at waist height, holding it taut and going somewhat slow until you get the feel for stropping and master the technique.
Take care--and smooth shaving.
Have a look at this 1961 barber manual on honing & stropping here. The stropping part of it is the last two pages. Follow what they say about learning to flip the razor before you do the stroke and that will be a big help. The rest of the info is equally good and as you know there are stropping videos. If you nick your strop don't fret, we've all done it.
Welcome to SRP. My advice on stropping is go slowly & lightly but don't hesitate with your strokes. :gl:
