    Default Hi

Hey, I'm a female that's interested in using a straight razor since it seems to be more eco friendly than any other option(even sugaring.). However, I can't seem to tell if a woman can shave her legs, armpits etc, because it looks like a lot of the threads refer to one's partner doing that. My boyfriend would not be willing to, as he's kinda scared of razors himself(even straight razors give him nasty razor burn, he used his dad's old one a couple of times, and his dad showed him how to use it properly.) and well, although I care about him, I'm in high school and doubt I'll be dating him forever.

If a woman can shave her legs etc by her self, what razors would be recommended? How exactly do you do that? Sorry if that sounds awkward, it's just I really don't know how one would shave with a straight razor to get smooth skin without well, cutting oneself open.

Welcome to SRP Gisleburtus! We're glad to have you with us!

You're in the right place to get your questions answered and we have a growing number of female members, as well as a Ladies Corner where you can discuss things away form the main forum.

Here is a link to the ladies forum: Ladies Corner - Straight Razor Place Forums

You'll also see a section called Ladies Only, which you can gain access to if you PM Silver, who is one of our Mentors. She'll send you the password to get in.

If you havent already, check out our SRP Wiki here: Straight Razor Place Wiki as well as our FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions - Straight Razor Place Wiki) and Beginners Guide (Straight Razor Place Wiki:Books/Beginners Guide - Straight Razor Place Wiki)

The ladies here will be able to give you much more information on preferred kit than I can, as well as advising you on good shaving technique, so I will defer to their expertise.

Welcome again, good luck and keep us posted!

well im not a girl but i do shave from face to toes and do it all my self with my straight razor id say a 4/8th or similar narrow blade will help with difficult places and definitely definitely get a round point i did my armpits with a non round point once wasn't a good experience but with a round point i can do my armpits in two strokes. im sure there are a few ladys on here that can set you on the right path and im happy to answer any question you have on legs and suchlike

Hello, and welcome to the group. It's a great place to find out all the information you need.

To answer your questions. Yes a woman can shave their legs with a straignt razor. Arm pits possibly but I have not gotten up the courage to do that. I use a DE for those areas. As for a recommended straight razor. Most of the ladies I know use a 4/8 or 5/8 razor and we tend to like the round points. Makes it easier to get around the ankles and knees without nicks. It's all about the prep and angles.

Sounds like your boyfriend may have either used to much pressure or the razor wasn't really shave ready. Mastering the use of a straight razor can take come time but it's a great feeling when you finally get it. You can pm me with any questions you might have.

I look forward to chatting with you.

    -Carrie

Thanks for the advice everyone! Good to know people have shaved their armpits and legs with a straight razor!

CarrieM-My boyfriend just has VERY sensitive skin. He's the only guy I know to have ever gotten a serious rash from my eyebrow hair if I kiss him. He's a little bit paranoid about other people's skin as a result. xD But good to know that a light touch is important.

    Hello Gislebertus

I am NOT a lady either. But I can tell you a story my Mom told me and that may help a little. She told me that her dad used his str8 (str8 = straight, BTW) razor regularly. She watched him - as I'd suspect young girls do when curious about their dad's shave routine/s. She developed an interest in his shave techniques and asked him to teach her to use one. He did.

The rest, as they say, is history. She told me she'd shave her legs regularly - by herself - after she developed a "feel" for her razor hold. She used the one I post here:

Of course she used it when it looked in better shape then it does now. It's early 1900's vintage. It's a 4/8ths blade width, which seemed to work good for her.

Other then that "story", to maybe give you more confidence that a lady CAN do it herself with NO HELP, continue seeking a ladies advice with "details" of how to use one. There are several members here that can certainly get you on your way to saving your own lil piece of the environment by never having to purchasing another "throw-away" "disposable" razor, again!

Good luck and welcome to SRP from another "newbie" str8 shaver!

    Kindest regards,

    ~Phil
