Hello from Seattle

Hi everyone!

I've posted a question already (and thank you for the answers/encouragement), but wanted to do the formal introductions too. My name is Greg, and I hate shaving...with a disposable. I'm REALLY hoping that changes with a straight, and at the very least, I can say that I'm excited about shaving again now that I'm waiting for my new razor and gear to make their way to me courtesy of the USPS.

Outside of shaving, I brew beer and I'm a die hard Oakland A's fan (even more fun to be an Oakland fan in Seattle). Oh, and I like to type a lot...some say long-winded.

So, I'll finish with, if anyone has any recommendations for Seattle area razor shops, they'd be much appreciated, and thank you all for an incredibly useful forum.

Welcome, Greg. You'll have fun here I can assure you. Thank you for introducing yourself. Living in the Midwest and only making it as far north as Northern California on your side of the country the only thing I can say about Seattle with my personal experience is that I like Filson clothing. Expensive but built to last and the customer service I've experienced is top notch.

Welcome aboard Greg, I was almost in Seattle yesterday the wife and I headed out that way on Monday morning with every intention of having Sushi at the place on the fountain steps at the Pikes Street Market but we stopped in Leavenworth and got side tracked at the antique stores and the neat little shops and never made Seattle... I did bring home 9 razors though wooooohooooo !!!!!

Nice to meet you, Chris and Glen. Chris, I've never heard of Filson clothing, I'll have to look them up. Glen, wow, 9 razors, impressive! Although next time you actually DO make it to Seattle, can I suggest Taka Sushi? It's a bit farther North, but cheaper and in my inexpert opinion, actually the best sushi in Seattle.

I too am a veterinarian named Greg. I'm a 1984 University of Tennessee grad. I'm a radiologist & radiation oncologist at Auburn. I'm new to straight razor shaving - just got 2 new SR's delivered to the house w/in the past 24-48 hrs. One is "shave ready" from Lynn, the other has a factory edge & I'll be sending it to Lynn on Monday for him to get it shave ready. I'd planned on my first straight razor shave happening this morning, but the day got kind of busy really early. All I have to do before my first shave tomorrow is figure out where to hang my strop - options kind of limited in our bathroom.

I'm a 2003 CSU grad, and then decided to join the ranks of the way overeducated and went to the University of Washington for a PhD in microbiology. Now that that's over I'm still in Seattle at a non-profit studying innate immunity to herpes and pox viruses. I love it!

And I think I'll enjoy straights just as much. I received my first razor from Cedrick Smythe just yesterday, which is a little bit of torture because I'm still waiting for my strop and soap to make it here. Hopefully Monday. Good luck with your first shaves, let me know how they go!

Hello Greg, Welcome to SRP. There is not a lot in the way of shave goods suppliers in Seattle, and what I have found is really overpriced. I have found even with shipping fees, it's easier and cheaper to buy stuff on-line especially when you factor in gas, and the nearly 10% sales tax we get to pay.
There is a crabtree and evelyn outlet in the the seattle premium outlet and bell square, Bath and body works has C O Bigelow (Proraso), and there is an art of shaving store in bellevue, there are a few shops in and around downtown, that has some shave goods, marios, Oslo's, Nordstroms....

Hmm, I work at a non-profit too, but we don't have any papilloma or varicella research going on that I know of.

Hey Greg, welcome to SRP. While I don't live there, I love Seattle and visit a couple of times a year. I am a big coffee fan and there are so so many great places close to the downtown. Not a lot of shaving stuff there but I do know that the soap shop in Pike Place Market carries Pre de Provence, Crabtree & Evelyn, and Omega cream and brushes and the prices are reasonable.
