Hi all. My name is Ricky Savoie. I'm originally from New Orleans but I have resided in Japan for the last 25 years. Straight razor shaving is completely new to me, so I need all the help I can get. I bought a new straight razor, but failed to have it professionally honed. I bought a super fine finishing stone and have got it to where its usable. I have a Norton 4000/8000 on the way but it may take a couple off months to get here.

welcome aboard, the way i taught myself was to watch you-tube vids of straight razors shaving and reading alot on the wiki here on srp, just take you time to learn the art.you can ask any questions here and you will get honest answers.
welcome to srp. you should post some more info about your razor. most of the new razors are actually garbage, there are only a handful of companies that make good ones.
Welcome to SPR. A valiant effort on your part to hone it yourself. There are at least two SRP members who hone their own razors, and one of them who sell some of the finest strops on the planet, that live in Japan. They will no doubt be along and maybe you can get some assitance from one or both. In the meanwhile read my sig below to avoid nicks and cuts. :gl:

Good to see you! I'm in Japan myself, down in Yamaguchi.
There's not a ton of stuff for us straight shavers around, but some of what we have is pretty much unbeatable.
