It seems that my little ole intro thread has been such a hit that we have decided to dedicate a sub forum to you new guys that are just coming on board to introduce yourselves. You can each start your own thread and tell us about yourselves and discuss problems with the older members without haveing to wade through a dozen posts to find your answer. Now a note to you old Timers (you know who you are) It takes a lot of guts for these new guys to jump up here and put themselves on the line, So when you read these intros please feel free to welcome the new guys and if you see that you share some of the same interests engage them in conversation. This is with out a doubt the greatest on line community I have ever been a part of and I truly believe that it's largely dues to the fact that everyone takes the time to get to know each other. So this is a great opportunity to meet the new people and get to know each other one on one, You never can have to many friends and its great to know the right people to call on when we need a helping hand with some project. This is also a wonderful chance to tie up with people who live close to you for gathering and mentor groups. This sub forum has great potential but it will only be as good as we all make it. So you old members get off your butts and drop in to say hello!!!!

Just would like to say thanks for all of the great information. I've been reading the forums for a few weeks now and finally decided to join. Found out that these razors get pretty addicting. I've already bought 3 razors from antique stores, one new TI carbonsong, and am already doing my first full restoration with custom scales, all within one month. That said, keep up the good work and hopefully I can learn more from all of you.

    Default Hello to all....

Big Rock here, I have been using a safety razor for many years now and have been working on the transition to a straight razor. it is most definitely not as easy as many make it look, as I sit here typing, contemplating the new gouge in my right cheek, I am more determined than ever to succeed. I purchased a new Dovo razor, a leather strop, a badger brush, and some leather conditioner a year ago, started to use these great tools, but was constrained by time working doubles and dealing with family matters and such forced me to abandon the pursuit and go back to the quick route of the safety razor. Time is now on my side and I will devote some of it to learn a proper shave. I will be perusing the FAQ section here, as I feel my razor isnt as sharp as it should be, I am feeling a lot of resistance and pulling of hairs. My beard hair is coarse and hard, plenty of grays popping out, so stropping and honing will be absorbing a lot of effort first, I feel pretty comfortable maneuvering the razor around my face, but ripping out the hair sucks. Well, I am glad I found this site and thank its owner and administrators for all the effort in producing such a wonderful resource.

    Default New to the game.

    Hello All,

My name is Billy and I am brand new to the straight razor world. My razor has not even arrived in the mail yet but I already have so many questions many of which I have found answers to already by reading the different forum posts. My main concern right now is getting all of the necessary tools I need to start my straight razor experience. I have an antique razor coming in the mail it is a "WM Elliot & Co. straight Razor". I feel that it may not be shave ready nor am I experienced enough to know when it arrives if it is ready. I am looking for someone to reach out to in order to help me find a good deal on some new/used supplies to get me started. Thanks for all your help.

    Billy D.

Hello to everyone. I'm a new member of course to the web site. I live out in the mid-Willamette valley of Oregon. I actually got introduced to straight razors through my hobby of collecting vintage pocket knives. I currently have a small collection of a half a dozen straight razors. I discovered this site while doing some research on a Union Cutlery Razor I purchased at an estate sale. Just for everyones information, I belong to a knife club which holds a very large show every April and straight razors are a big part of the show. Well, thank you for allowing me this bit of space to introduce myself and I really enjoy your website. Bull

    Default New member hello

Hello everyone. Like many introductions I've read, I've been watching from a distance so to speak, and have now decided to jump in and register. I bought my first straight razor a couple of weeks ago, a used Dovo Micarta SS from a SRP member, and am slowly mounting the learning curve. Thanks for all the great info here; hope to be able to assimilate it all a little better than I am currently doing.
