Allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Nathan and I have yet to have my first straight shave.
Like many of the members here I have been visiting this site to research straight shaving before I joined the forum. The last thing a site dedicated to preserving a lost or somewhat forgotten art needs in another troll. That being said, I'd like to thank the members that have put so much effort into this and other sites to help beginners.
For the last few weeks I have been trying to learn as much as possible before I start throwing my money at ebay auctions not knowing what I'm actually bidding on. I recently have been checking out the classified section since I would much rather support a member on SRP. I've contacted one of the members with an ad up but it's July 4th weekend so I'm sure I won't be hearing from that person for a few days. I've tried in vain to bid on some razors that are sold by altima55 on ebay since I read a thread on SRP referring this seller. I am no ebay sniper so I will probably continue to lose auctions.
That led me to the give away contest thread and thought, why not? Although, I couldn't put myself into the raffle without at least introducing myself. I didn't want my first post to be me asking for free schwag. It will be my second haha.
So there you have it, one of the longest intro threads that will be half read this year. Thanks for having me and I look forward to learning more about this BBS.

Welcome to SRP! Be sure to read all the Wiki help files on getting started.
Straight Razor Place Wiki
Ebay is not recommended for new people. I would wait until you you know what to look for in razors.
What you want is a shave ready straight razor. That way you have something to compare and know what a sharp razor is like.
I do highly recommend the classifieds. I have bought many great razors and all have been shave ready. The prices on the classifieds are great and the you don't need to pay much for a decent razor. Which razors are you interested in?

Welcome and best of luck to you on your journey. The classifieds are definitely the place to begin looking for a first, shave-ready razor. If you want a new one, you won't go wrong with the SRP "sets" that include a strop and a razor honed by the master himself - Lynn. Either way, keep trolling the boards and read the wiki then when you've got that blade in your hand, you'll be ready to shave!

+1. Bill is absolutely right on the moola. Try to stay away from eBay. SRP classified offer several advantages eBay doesn't (unless you know someone there who is also on SRP): Originally Posted by LegalBeagle

I was able to contact one of the members with an ad up and have it all squared away. I wasn't expecting such a quick response.
Pretty soon I'll be able to stop talking about straight shaving and actually do it. I'm sure the mrs will love that.

Welcome!
+1 on all the advice given already. All I can add is to recommend doing plenty of reading here to make sure you know what to look for and what to expect when you start shaving. I found my research here really paid off when I started, and made the transition from DE to straight much easier.
