Having tough beard and sensitive skin I tried many ways of shaving. A shavette went best for me. Around the end of last year I thought of straight razors, I didn't even know if any was produced anymore. I googled for it and I found many pieces o precious information and srp. At the beginning of the year I got a Dovo Special, a strop and soap. I dulled the razor at once. After a while I worked up something with a touch up stone, but got a dull razor. Around a month or two ago I got my outfit completed with stones, strops, cream, silvertip badger brush, CrO2, a second razor (5/8 Friodur, not an inspired choice, not recommended as for me). I succeeded to hone and strop my razors. Occasionally I use a DE razor, especially for longer beard. I seldom get bumps or razor burn just to remember how it used to be. Probably the ones that consider that the only way to properly shave is with a straight razor are right.
For beginners contemplating straight razor shaving, I think that the most important thing to learn is to strop.
