    Default Sick of Gilette Mach!!

Hello all just joined, sick of wasting my money with 5 blade gimmick razors that only last a single shave! Just ordered a Dovo Straight Razor. I always am pleased with the straight razor shave I get from my barber, so I am now waiting for my new razor to arrive and learn to achieve the best possible shave possible!

Welcome! Be sure to read up in the wiki (check links in my sig). Dovo makes great razors. Did you get it from straight razor designs?

    Welcome!

I hear you with the Mach3 and stuff, terrible shaves and they are extortionately priced. Your DOVO razor will give you much better shaves, thats for sure!

Where did you order your DOVO from? It might need honing before use depending on where you got it from.

You'll also need a strop, so be sure to have a look in the Vendors Corner forum for places you can pick up a strop.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for the responses, I ordered the dovo and strop from ShaveKing, just because they were relatively the same price as straight razor designs, but they are located in Costa Mesa, CA, which is real close to me. I called them this morning and going to pick it up ag their shop this afternoon.
Great resources here, looks like I have a lot of reading to do!
    Thanks again!

    Welcome to the SRP!

Now just make sure you send that razor out to be properly honed. Fresh from the factory razors are seldom up to snuff. Look in the SRP classified ads for guys who will hone that razor.

QFT. A factory sharpened razor is sharp but not ready to be put to face. If you dont' send it out to someone who can hone it properly, you will likely drop straight shaving after turning your face to hamburger.

There is a list of honemeisters here:

Yup! Thanks all for replying, I had my Barber hone my new Dovo for me. So far so good. Already shaved four times without and knicks or cuts. My wife has already noticed how close and smooth this is as compared to those cheesy cartridges! I have not even given those damn disposables a second thought!

And you are stropping just before each and every shave, correct? On a plain leather hanging strop or a plain leather paddle strop? For 30-60 roundtrip laps? Hope so, just checking!

Randy, I am using a plain 2"x17" leather hanging strop, held firmly tight & taute. Still working on my technique. Using an "X" pattern. Always strop before and usuallly so far after I shave as well. But thanks asking. If you have some pointers feel free to comment, I am trying to establish proper techniques now before I am set in my ways!
