hello new shaver here

hi all, i have wanted to shave using a straight razor for a while and finally thought its about time i just go out and get one, i have bought a dovo disposable shavette but one shave and its to light, so i thought after reading up about it that i should get a real one, maybe a 5/8 half hollow round point??? is that what i should get? i wasnt keen on the idea of full hollow but i guess i should leave that to you to tell me on here as im not experienced and no doubt most of you are! also i am looking to buy one right away so if anyone has one for sale im interseted, i like the look of the thiers issard scoffier?? i would like to get a real good one first time as i know already this straight razor shaving is definitely for me

Hello John and welcome. I think the usual consensus is to start with a blade that is 6/8" and half hollow. I think the idea is that the size and grind both fall right in the middle of the spectrum. This is how I started, however, I now know that I tend to favor stiffer grinds in the 5/8 - 6/8 size range. You could always look on the classifieds here and get a shave ready razor without breaking the bank on a brand new shiny one. Looking back, I wish I would have done that. 5/8, 6/8....wedge, full hollow....in the end, it is up to you to experiment and see what you feel most comfortable with.
