    Hi Chaps
Thought I had better finally register and introduce myself after a couple of months reading your forums and gaining invaluable information from them.
My story goes like this - I visited Naples Florida on holiday in May this year and whilst walking through the Coastland Centre Mall popped into Cutlery World for a look.
There I spied some straight razors and thinking how much I had always hated paying out for your Mach3 etc enquired about the price. The gent gave me some information about them and then proceeded to explain about making it shave ready, that I would need a strop and in time a hone etc etc. In the end upon his recommendation I bought a Shavette to give that a go first. Never did get to thank that guy.
Anyway 2 months down the line I am still on a steep learning curve but enjoying it. I now have a vintage Straight Razor and starter strop supplied by Neil Miller (A very nice Chap). Have made a couple of purchases off Ebay, one of which has been cleaned up and sent to Neil for honing. The other I have restored by polishing and repinning and I am waiting for a set of honing stones to arrive to practice making this razor shave ready.
So you could say I am hooked and long may the journey continue.

    Hello Craig,
Glad to hear that you're starting out with the right kit. It makes things so much easier.
Neil Miller has some great vintage razors & beautiful strops, along with the added advantage that he does actually know what he's on about when it comes to straights.
Read the Wiki, as Stu say's. It's a valuable tool.

    Thanks for the welcome.

After reading through some of the information and recommnedations in differant forums I went for the 3 piece set, 5k, 8k & Chinese 12k from the Ebay guy in Poland. Seemed a sensible starter set with sensible price. If I get into honing my own there is the option to upgrade at a later date.

They havent arrived yet, but when they do you can be sure I will asking lots of questions.

    Craig

You've come to the right place and your going to enjoy shaving alot more than you ever used to.

Neil is great to do business with. I have one of his extra large paddle strops in bridle and tallow tan and it just keeps getting better the more I use it.

    Hey Craig

Welcome to the forums, good luck with the journey I got those hones as well, not had a chance to get right down to the honingness yet though.
