    Default Hello from Iowa/Wyoming

Hello to all and thanks for having me…

A little about myself, you’re probably wondering about my forum name, well to being with I’m a pipe smoker, therefore, my favorite size of pipe is a nose warmer…

I live in Iowa and work in Wyoming, 1056 mile drive every three weeks...

I've been curious about straight razor shaving since I was younger, mostly watching gentlemen getting shaved in the “Old School” barber shops, which there doesn’t seem to be many of anymore.

When I was a wee boy I remember watching my dad use his DE razor… When the disposable razors came along, his went by the wayside.

My father is now in a “Healthcare Center” and my mom has asked me to cut his hair, shave and give a facial massage about every three weeks… I enjoy doing it because it gives me time with my 70 year old dad that I will never get back…

The disposable razors that I’m using just don’t get the job done, so I have just bought my first DE razor…

    I hope I made a good choice, Weishi TTO…

Any help or suggestions… Please let me know…

    Thanks again

    NW

Looks like a good DE, I'm only a modest collector of DEs (need to save money for more straights) so take anything I say with a grain of salt. In my experiance the DE is probably less important than the blades that you are using. I don't have much experiance experimenting but I know there are some members here that have and it seems there are a few different elite blades and different members prefer different ones. My advice would be to find what works for you and then share it with your father. It's great that you have that experiance with your father I'm sure like a father teaching a son to shave it will be a found memory for both of you.

Where do you live in Iowa? If you are anywhere near Iowa City, let me know if you'd like any help with straight razors or hones.

    Thanks for the welcome...

I bought a series of blade samples, 7 o'clock Super Stainless, Bic Chrome, Derby SS, Parker, Shark & Sharp...

I'm sure that I will have LOTS of questions in the near future... I figured that I'd start with a DE before the straight...

I live south of Iowa Falls, so I'm about 2.5 hours from Iowa City... And yes, I would take all the help I can get when I get into the straights...

I grew up in Eldora and my parents still live there. Strange to see someone else from Hardin County on here. Welcome from a fellow newbie.

Default send a pm when you have a spare moment on your way thru

I am in South East Wyoming. If you someday have a spare moment on the way thru send a pm.

Your DE should treat you well. And it will not be long till you head to the straights. It only took me about a year and a half after I started using the DE to move to straights.

You need ot get a Rolls Razor to work with also.
