Default Bumppy's in Town Howdy All

Ok, Ok.. just the normal guy located in what seems to be the beginning of the straight razor industry, Germany. While here I thought, I would look into straight razor as a means of reducing if not ending the horror of the Bumppies... Pseudo Fic whatever is killing me.. and I know disposiable razors didn't help.. So I have been shaving with a Merkur, lovin the morning shave. I have it down to a near science.. when I can shave in the dark and still have a nice Goatee I'll say I am a master.. But, I still have the bumppies since, I ran out of Merkur razors and switched to the cheaper PX version..

So, I thought, if Merkur makes one of the best razors, and I had fewer bumps, than it's the quality of the tool used to handle a gentleman shave that I require. So, I started to look into sites like Straight Razor Place, Em's has some good products, along with others, but, why by from home and pay the extra, when I can go the factory in Solingen and see for myself.

So, Help me out guys... if you were here, within driving distance of Solingen which company would you go and which razor would you select as a beginner, thats looking for a quality near lifelong razor along with accessories.

I travel a bit so, I'll take the Merkur DE as a travel set and use the Straight to start the day the right way...

    Loooking forward to you suggestions.

    Hi and welcome to SRP.
I would look at the product lines at Böker, Revisor and Wacker, and pick what felt good to me.

    Default Whats merits these sections

    Otto,

Thanks you for the suggestions, Boker's site is really interesting, but, dont want to select on advertisement alone. Can you tell me some good bad that might stick out in your mind. Unfortunately, when an beginner attempts to select a quality product, a foul is at the helm.

I understand that I need a beginners razor, that's half hollow ground or wedge (leaning towards the Half, for future increase in skill level) and something that's stainless steel would be good for me, because, I travel alot. The humidity extremes in shared latrines could cause unnecessary spots. In addition Stainless keeps an edge longer but requires more honing over time. So, I'm thinking to get two razors at first to alternate and to have one to travel and one for home.

I am not sure about the handle yet, though I am partial to blue and than white or cream colours. I prefer the natural materials.. (Not quite sure what celluiod is.. and bakelite, but don't think those will be of interest.)

The Wacker, have some awesome handles. Quite unique.. but the Boker's have the sets that look spectacular.

I appreciate you assistance, I thought DOVO was the best, but after seeing these, I see DOVO is the most advertised not the best.

Any suggestions on the accessary equipment?

Currently I use a Boar's Hair brush, I like the quick lather and rough scrub..
What kind of strop and are you familiar with any travel cases that would best protect all the necessities?

    Here you go.

I have both Böker, Revisor and Wackers. They are all great. I would go for a 6/8 as a starter (see the Wiki). Good luck.
