Excited about my first cut-throat shave

Hi,
I have been reading some of the articles and forums here. I decided to try to shave with one blade instead of five or an electric razor.
As a former US Marine, I have always insisted on having a close shave. I looked into using soap and creams with a badger brush and bought an inexpensive gift set from Burma-Shave. (included a mug, brush, and soap). I immediately noticed a big difference in soap from shaving foam in a can!
I am starting slow with changing over from my cartridge razor, yesterday I bought a Dovo Shavette. I felt that it would be the logical step towards a straight razor.

I have read most of the boards about the first shave and I think I am prepared. So, my first question is "where do I get some good soaps/cremes? Aftershaves?" I like online buying, but with soaps/cremes and aftershaves I would like to be able to smell them first. Any suggestions?
