    Default Greetings All!

Hello to everyone. My name is John from the states, NJ , and this is one impressive site. Loads of information. Tried to shave with a straight razor about a year ago and it was tough. Couldn't cut anything then just picked it up again recently. Took my time and practiced some patience. Thank heavens for the videos. Big difference! A nick here and there but I'm ready to move on. What I think I need to do is get a shave ready blade. Seems to be the consensus around the boards for beginners.

    See you around the boards.

Yes, you ought to obtain a shave-ready blade (it doesn't have to be a gay blade) and a strop too.

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

hoglahoo: Good advice about the strop I have an inexpensive one now but just ordered the Illinois 827 strop. As for a razor I am looking at the Dovo's Prima series blades. I am looking around for a professionally sharpened one. Thanks again.

Welcome Zorro! Good move on the professionally honed blade. I hacked away for about a year with a barely sharp enough blade I'd honed myself. You'll enjoy a gentler introduction to the art.
