    Default Hello Everyone.

You know gents and perhaps some ladies, I guess the Internet has a space for everyone... I saw this site, and some others and said to myself that in my entire adult life, that I probably would only be able to get myself a great shave by a barber and not by myself.

I remember seeing my dad shaving with double edge blades over 45 years ago and I remember him saying that it was always a good day when he took his time taking a decent shave. Of course mom also told me that the freshness of his shave was one of the things that really attracted her to him.

So, when I finally began searching on the internet about shaving, I bumped into several sites, and when I started reading the beginners section of this site, it was very clear that you gentlemen had this subject down right. Once I started reading articles from some of the mediators, it shut down my researching and finally I selected this place as the site that would help me get my first shave.

I am 53 years old and I have never had a hot shave per se, except when I lather my face with a brush that is over 25 years old that was given to me by my first wife. The logo on the brush is gone, but it's a very nice smooth brush that lathers very quickly and retains heat very well. She must have spent some bucks on it because she bought it on 5th avenue in New York. My current wife of course does not know the history about that brush, so you guys need to keep this secret...

Anyway, I am currently on disability so I have to be very careful with my expenses, but the wife said to me to pick a blade for xmas, and she will see if she could get me one.

So now after reading the articles for beginners I have decided to go with a single blade, and although I read by a mediator a great article; which I cant recall right now, he mention a brand of blade for around 89 dollars, which I thought would be a great start. But when my wife surprised me that I could spend up to 150.00 bucks for the bladed I realized in that moment that she was being very generous considering the financial situation we are currently in.

So, I might be asking for a huge favor hear and I really do not want to start my time in this forum in any bad way or form insulting anyone, but I know that there is a team of you that do all the testing of blades and everything else and I was wondering... If you had 150.00 bucks in your wallet and you would never have the chance of buying another blade again, hands down which blade would that be? I am directly asking this question to the senior staff of this site, I honestly wish I could afford more, but I can't, we can't. I have saved a few dollar myself for soap and conditioner and I prefer a very classic smell, and was wondering if again you wanted the best oldest and best soap and aftershave which one would you choose. I know that this is a wide area to ask. But to give you an idea of what I have been using almost all my life is "Old Spice". Some of you gents know what classic smell am referring to.

There was a time, when I felt that coming back from combat that all I wanted was a good meal, and sleep and get ready to get back into the arena and begin fighting again. The reality is that all I wanted was a good bath and a decent shave... That always had a sense of bringing you back to reality, now after so many years, I finally get the opportunity to do something as simple as shaving in a totally different way and perhaps add something simple and different to my life.

I am looking forward to hearing from all of you and especially from the staff. It is my pleasure to join and say hello to such a good bunch of men, and perhaps women on this site.

    Thank you, El Cid

Default Awesome, a couple of questions

Thanks for the warm welcome, it's greatly appreciated. I went to the site, and it looks like a great deal. Was wondering if you could tell me which Premium and size strop you would order for this 5/8 blade, as well as which soap and aftershave you would recommend for starters.

I was about to put the order in, and then I saw the different strops for the premium ones, and there was just a 5 dollar difference on the upgrade so I would prefer to just get the one you would recommend. I just didn't know which one to choose. Again, thank you for the help. El Cid.

    Cool

My favorite shaving cream is the C.O. Bigelow that you get in a tube at Bed Bath and something at the mall. Great stuff.

You can't go wrong with that Dovo from SRD!!

    Enjoy! .
