Hello from Illinois
Howdy everyone. Im here as a 50+ year old, returning to the bare-blade side of life after (too)many years of scraping my face with cheap, disposable pieces of metal.
I first learned to shave with a straight blade as a teenager when my grandfather, who was a barber, insisted that I learn to give myself a "proper shave". Before long, as is frequently the case with young men, I found myself occupied with work, dating, partying, etc.(not necessarily in that order):w, and disposable razors, being just so much more convenient, became the norm. The straight razors were neglected, relegated to the back of a drawer, and soon forgotten.
When Grandpa passed away a few years ago I inherited his strop, mug&brush, and a couple of his favorite Dubl Duck blades. I thought at the time that I would one day put them to use again.
That time has come.
I never mastered the art of honing a razor, so I had to track down a local "honemeister" to bring them back up to snuff, but they are now out for a tune-up and soon I will honor my grandpa's memory with a "proper shave".
I just hope my face survives:hmmm:

Thanks for the welcome Catrentshaving, I'm already benefitting from the wealth of info contained in this forum. It's going to take me a while to wade thru it all.
