Hello all,
Great forum! Just discovered today, someone selling a razor on eBay was kind enough to point it out to me.
I've always loved straight razors, and would occasionally go get a real shave where available, but didn't really get into using them myself until I was 50, about two years ago. Visiting Germany, a pretty little Dovo caught my eye in a shop window (an authentic old-fashioned gentlemen's barbershop!), and I was sold... :) Moreover, the shave is much more pleasant, with smoother results and seems kinder to my fairly sensitive ageing skin than the latest super-duper vibrating Gillette, which I was anyway tired of buying blades for.
By now, I own two Dovo razors (black Micarta and Carpe Diem), two Dovo brushes, have stocked up on various shaving creams, soaps, oils, and a box (!) of Dominica Bay Rum w. Lime (found it at wholesale).
I'm in the market for a few more razors, as usable collectibles. Thinking of trying a Thiers Issard, or maybe I just stick with Dovo. I've also recently been trying to perfect my skills at honing, and making some progress. So far I have a 1000 and a 4000/8000 grit waterstone, and some good leather strops. My results are okay, workable, but still sub-optimal. I look forward to reading up on honing tips and equipment here.
Well, that's it. Happy shaves to all!

Welcome to SRP!
A few years ago I moved my aging skin to the harsh high desert of western Colorado, and finally switched over to full-time straight shaving in the last year. It does help a lot!
It sounds like you're at the cusp of several acquisition disorders, and you'll find everything from gentle support and full-bore enabling here.
There's good shopping in our Classifieds.
Best wishes to you.
