A New Member From Iowa
Hello everyone,
My Name is Henry but my friends call me Hank I am from Iowa and new to Straight Razors. I have been a we shaver with various DE's for 15 or so years.
I am in the straight razor research stage. I have 3 straights one of which is shave ready, one I got for christmas this year and the third is my grand fathers that I recieved last week it needs to be restored.
I would like to find a straight razor mentor that is from Iowa, I can read as much as I can and watch as many youtube videos as possible but I feel that unless I can see it in action I will have a hard time learning how to use and maintain a straight.
I have a fist full of brushes and more soaps and creams that I could use in several years and am always buying more.
I am middle aged have been married two years and have a 5 month old daughter that keeps me very busy when I have time I also enjoy pipe smoking, reading cooking, collecting pipes, hats, and ofcourse shave gear!
It's nice to be a part of this forum, it already feels like home if any of you Iowa fellas could take a green horn under your wing I would greatly apericate it !

Welcome to SRP, Hank! Where in Iowa are you located? We have quite a few members here in IA who might be able to help you out... if you're anywhere near me I'd be happy to show you the ropes sometime.

Thanked: 443Hey welcome! There are three or four people in Iowa City, the Flapjack King in Decorah, and one at least in Davenport. I'm in western Colorado but moved here from Iowa, to which I yearn to return. Good luck hooking up with folks there.

Welcome, Hank.
I'm a native, but moved South 25 years ago with a job transfer. After seeing the -15 temps in Iowa last week I believe I'll stay in Tennessee.
Still have relatives in Cedar Rapids, Cedar Falls, West Des Moines, and Spencer.

Thanked: 2204Here is a link to a member search for Iowa
Straight Razor Place Forums: Members List
(8,100 members have chosen not to be listed)
When I performed a search for a location of "IA" it brought back 27 pages! That included all locations with "IA" in it such as Victoria.
If anyone know how to limit the parameter to only "IA" it would be very useful.
Take Ben up on his offer. He knows what he is doing!Last edited by randydance062449; 01-25-2011 at 03:09 PM.

Welcome! I grew up in Urbandale and graduated from ISU in '90. Now living in northern VA but I still get back about once a year to visit my family.
Welcome to the adventure. I skipped over DEs and went straight from a love/hate relationship with my electric and a love/hate relationship with my Fusion to loving (mostly) a straight. I'm just at the stage of getting good WTG passes with the straight and finishing up with my fusion and doing that about every 3 days. I'm letting my face get used to it before I step up the pace and am going to make sure I'm very comfortable going WTG before I attempt a second pass with the straight.
Anyway, welcome!
