Greetings
Hey all at SRP,
first of all just want to say how thrilled i am to have finally joined up, i have been reading as a guest for ages now and i finally signed up.
Little bit of history as to how i stumbled across this site. since 17 i have actually HAD to shave however its always been a tedious process (im guessing that many stories go like this), no matter what i did (new cartridge razor, cream) it would always be painful rash, numerous ingrowns and waiting for over a week before i could shave again. Six months ago i got fed up went to the barbers for the haircut, asked the person for tips about shaving and the rest is history. since that date i have been hooked on straight-edge razor shaving and have no intention of going anywhere but up. researching as i do i came across your site and it has only served to heighten my love for the "classic shave".
as a final note i thought i might list my "gear" that i have been using:
Dovo Shavette w/- Astra blades
TOBS Sandalwood
Geo F Trumper Eucris
im still trying to decide which razor i get as i want a Dovo for my first but arghhhh sooo many choices for a noob, that and the strops ive been in touch with Lynn and if you read this Lynn i have a very very interesting question to ask you.......
in a previous life i was a butcher/meatworker so its interesting how the "sharpness" tests for razors is identical to the tests for knives (you would think that there would be some differences given edge/bevel/shoulder requirements) so i am keen to see just how i go at honing my own razor.
in closing i cant wait to get to know everyone on here and hope to be a worthwhile contributor in time. hope you all have a great day.

hey there and welcome to SRP!
I has the same issues as you with cartridges. It was a thing I had to do and I hated it. It's funny how shaving can change your out look on life so quickly. Ever since I switched I look forward to shaving - I talk about shaving with friends (much to their dismay) and spend more time here than I care to admit.
Be sure to check out the wiki, and if you are looking to get into honing, I would highly encourage you to check out the hones and honing sections. You can pick up a LOT of great information there. razors are a whole different animal than knives, and it seems to be all the little things that are truly important in honing.
