New member, maybe you could help?

Hi all, I'm new here, and let me just say how amazed I am to see such a thriving community of fellow straight razor users! Besides myself, I have only one friend who also shaves with a straight, and we started together a couple years back, having purchased one each from a flea market, stuck on em ever since. Since you all seem so knowledgeable, maybe you could help me with my razor question. I'm trying to find out, since I have a W&B just like these, if the shortness of the blade at the one end is typical of this model of W&B, or if they just usually get this sort of hone wear?

That shape - wider at the toe than the heal - is a normal blade shape. It is common on older Sheffield razors with heavy grinds.

thank you, i was looking in your razor database for pics of similar ones, but none had that odd shape

It will probably be tough to find them in the database because old Sheffield blades like that usually have no model or other stamp by which they would be called, except the maker's mark. For that reason, it is difficult to create a unique and meaningful title for them in the database.

Welcome to SRP. Like holli4 said, your razor looks like many I've seen and some that I have. Instead of the data base check out the razor clubs sub forum. Here is the one on Wade & Butcher.

The Razor Clubs is a subsection of the Razors forum. On the main page, the Razor Clubs appears under Razors, and if you are in the Razors section, the Razor Clubs appears above all the Razor's posts.

Be careful, looking at the razor clubs too long can lead to a depleted bank account and an inflated credit card balance. Don't ask me how I know. :boohoo:

haha I know what you mean buddy. Ever since I discovered E-bay last year I've gotten the itch to buy all sorts of stuff I didn't need until I saw it, and straights are no exception. BTW, isn't there a john barber club? I saw a barber club, but not for poor ol' john.

The JB's will probably be in the Sheffield Shavers, the Stubtail Shavers, and the Barber club you already saw. Check out the Gentlemen's Set too, for some serious drool action.

Yup, you're right, found some JB in the gentleman's area. Saw a seven day set of mint John Barbers, and now I am satisfied. Well almost...I'd be more satisfied if they were mine...
