Ex soldier who vowed 2 things on leaving Her Majesties Forces. Firstly that he would never again do PT before breakfast. Secondly that he would never again shave every day. First one is an easy vow to maintain but struggling with the second...bought my first Joseph Elliot straight blade this evening, the journey begins! All guidance, assistance and pointers welcomed!
Welcome to the forum! You'll find there are a few ex-military folk here who just can't shake the shaving habit. I'm not sure whether to call this a support group or an enabler's group ... one or the other ;)
The main pointer to start with is to read the stickies in the beginner's section of the forum and also read the beginner's section of the Wiki. After that, feel free to ask about anything that comes to mind.

Does anyone know if the military ever issued straight razors back in the day?
I don't KNOW, but I'd hazard a guess that officers may have had a "grooming issue" if you go back far enough. The Empire had to keep up appearences after all.
