Thanked: 1Greetings from the heart of dixie
From a 45 year old paramedic from Alabama.
I recently inherited one of my late grandfather's straight razors.
When my mother gave it to me, she told me she wasn't sure if it was one he used, or if it was my great grandfather's
Found this place while looking for information on getting it back into shaving condition.
Being a shutterbug, I plan on posting some pics of the razor, its box etc tomorrow so hopefully someone here can tell me what I have

Poet, Welcome.
You're fortunate to be among the few w/ their ancestor's blades. That's pretty special. If by getting it back to shaving condition, it means you wish to take up str8 shaving, congrats for choosing quality. Because your Grandfather's blade cannot be replaced, you might consider a professional restoration and possibly acquiring a quality (even if inexpensive) razor on which to learn and make mistakes. Beginners are hard on gear (I was awful at it).
I think you'll find the crew here are very welcoming to new guys & beginners. Its honestly the best help and best attitudes I've found on a forum on any topic. If you do take up the blade, there's some learning to do. Read, watch videos, ask questions on the forums. It will be very little time before you're getting the best shaves of your life.
Again, Welcome. 'Good to have you.

Welcome to one of the most helpful places on the internet.
You did well by starting here. I agree with my NW brother when he suggests professional resto and honing.
Stay cool in this weather.

Thanked: 1Thank you for the warm reception.
Yes, I plan on trying to get it back in condition for shaving, IF it's a decent Razor. There's some rust and pitting up towards the spine, but the edge appears to be unharmed.
I have been unable to find out anything about "Drennon & Co" other than it having the name and "Made in Germany" on both the box and the tang and having the number "47" on the tang as well

knitepoet,
Welcome to SRP. Happy to have you aboard.
I agree. It would be nice to have some photos.
The photos will not only assist us in identifying the razor, but also whether it can or ought be restored and used."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain
