    Default Hello from Toronto.

    Hi Everybody,

Just wanted to introduce my self. My name is Michael, and I am just getting started into shaving with a straight razor. Recently I purchased a Thiers Issard starters kit from fendrihan, and tried for the first time yesterday. I look forward to learning a lot, and striving for that perfect shave!

    Welcome to SRP Michael
We are happy to see you here!
Sounds like you got yourself some great gear, now it is all a matter of learning to use it
Jump right in and feel free to ask any questions that may arise as you go along.

If I may, the links in my sig-line might be of good use to you when starting this new venture.
    Good luck!

Thanks for the warm welcome, and I will make sure to read though the information linked to in your signature! As I said I attempted my first shave yesterday, and although it went a lot better than I expected, it did seem to have quite a bit of a pull feeling to it. Hoping that they will only get better from here as I can refine my stroping and shaving technique.

Yes, the sensation of pulling is very common to those just starting out.
I know I experienced it myself. With some practice I got it right eventually

And you are quite right, better technique and stropping, along with good prep, will give you improvements quite rapidly

+1 to Trillium's comment for another local.

I have not bought a Ti razor but I see Fendrihan lists the razor as presharpened by Ti. I know generally factory sharpened razors still are not up to par with what most of us expect a razor to be. So some of the pulling might be due to that, i am not sure. There are a few options in the GTA to get your razor honed and based on my rate of making mistakes you may need a touch up in a few weeks.

Enjoy the journey, it is allot of fun and the people in this hobby seem to be the most giving of there time and knowledge that i have ever seen. so ask as many questions as you need.

    Right on! More Toronto members!

I think we have 3 "Mikes from Toronto" now. Hmmmm, .....a conspiracy?

Mike - I think many of us had a "pulling" sensation when we first began. Try taking the time to ensure your angles are just perfect, and use very light pressure. Keep a mental log of what works and what doesn't, and you'll see some rapid improvement.

    Welcome again.
