Hello from Canada - new to traditional shaving
Not too long ago, I decided to turn shaving from what was an annoying chore I tried to do as seldom as possible (I was down to once or twice a week), into something I could enjoy, both during and after.
Inspired by a discussion on an unrelated forum, I picked up a DE Merkur 38c from a friend who decided he didn't have time for a full wet shave every morning. This was just last week, so I've just started with the safety razor, but after doing a lot of reading (probably more than I should as my wife is now at the "shut up about the razors" stage), I decided I need to try straight razor shaving, as well. This way, I can decide which one will work best for me and which I will stick with for the long run - or maybe even both!
Anyway, long story short, I just purchased my first straight today from a user over at B&B and ordered a poor man's strop set from Larry at Whipped Dog. To go along with that, I've got some samples on the way from Garry's Sample Shop and also a sample package of creams and aftershaves from Truefitt and Hill. Hopefully, I can really try out a bunch of different shaving experiences over the next little while to find out what products work best for me.
I've gone from avoiding shaving until my wife nags me to looking forward to shaving with great anticipation (I'm probably an "every two days" guy with how my beard grows).
Thanks for all the great resources on this site. It's been a treasure so far and I am looking forward to learning a lot more.
