Thanked: 0South Florida Newbie
Hi,
I have just been introduced to straight razor shaving. Someone commented on how lousy my filet knives were and one thing led to another. Started to learn how to sharpen knives and this morphed somehow into straight razor shaving which I've been doing for several weeks. However, I've been reading the forum and the suggestion was to have a razor professionally honed to set the bar on sharpness. I've been watching many of the videos especially by gssixgun and have tried some of his techniques. Some were successful others not. I'm using a king 1000, 6000 and naniwa 12000 plus hanging strops. I've purchased a new dovo 5/8 half hollow and a couple of shefield razors from england (ebay). If I want to send in a razor to have professionally done where and who would I send it to? Suggestions please

Welcome to the SRP and the world of STR8s. You can check out the classifieds to find some of the vendors who hone razors. It is a very good idea as you said to get at least one professionally honed so you know what a properly honed razor feels like. There is also a learning curve associated with a good shave so give it some time and follow the advice on the wiki.

Thanked: 0Thanks for the advice
I appreciate the advice besides a new Dovo I did buy a couple of razors on ebay sorta to play with and see how I could hone. one of them won't hardly cut hair and I thought I did a good job on it. I will take your advice and find someone to hone it professionally to set a benchmark. At this point I don't know what I enjoy more, honing or shaving. My wife thinks I'm nuts........
