Thanked: 0New Member in France
Hello SRP !!
Here's my story....
Originally from Florida, I now live in Lyon, France with my wife and son. Over the past few years, my life has been a path of becomming more and more conscious of my impact on the world. It was only a matter of time before I realized that the disposable razors I have ben using for years are no longer coherent with my lifestyle. I started searching for a more "ecological" way of shaving and stumbled into this seemingly huge, and supportive community. I started with getting informed and in doing so haven't shaved in about a month. Now that I am ready to begin I signed up here looking for help.
I guess not many newbies come to this place the same way I did, but I am happy to be here.
I read somewhere that it might be best to buy a first razor used from some oldtimer that has been tested and honed already. I will look in the classifieds for that.
One question right off the bat is...Are strops made in any other material other than leather that give a good result?
Thanks for this wonderful website
See you guys on the forum,
Ryan

Hi Ryan, welcome to SRP.
Your reason for getting into straight shaving might not be the same as many others, but in the end we all do a little for the enviroment, even though I don't think many of us thought of that when getting into this (I know I didn't)
About your strop question I know Tony Miller made a Vegan strop, here's a link to his website: The Well Shaved Gentleman The Heirloom Razor Strop CompanyNeed help or tutoring? Check out the .

Thanked: 247Leather is biodegradeable, and the horse DID already make it. Chemical free, long lasting, and sustainable..I wish everything was made of leather. If you don't mind me asking, how come you're looking for something different?

Thanked: 1Hello from Florida,
My best piece of advise is to find a local guru to help you make the right choices. I introduced myself to the forum and met a gentleman who lives 45 min away. He honed my first razor, answered all my questions and showed me his collection. There is no way I would choose a new razor without his input. Meeting someone who has the experience and passion has been very nice. I have had a great experience because of his help. On a side note what brought you to France? I was in the little town of isle' de dondon and loved southern France. Good luck sincerely sam ← Tap again to save

Besides the link to Tony Miller's website, his strops are fantastic by the way, if you're a DIY type of guy you can always take and old pair of denim jeans and make a cheap and useable strop out of them.
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???
