Thanked: 0I am newb
It doesn't take long to notice that the shave from a Bic is not satisfactory it takes a little longer to notice that NONE of the disposable razors give a good shave. Hopefully by coming here I'll learn how to get myself a real shave.
I have a shavette on order right now and hopefully by christmas I will be able to order a real straight razor. Either one has to be easier than my experiments with a $15 pocket knife that can't even take an edge.

Welcome and good luck!
My advice, as a slightly less new noob, is to take it slowly, read a lot and ask a lot of questions. The Wiki is your friend, as are most of the posters here.

Welcome Monkeykoder, you've made a good start by getting a shavette. if you can work out how to shave with a shavette, you can concentrate on your beard prep, beard grain direction, holding the razor, stretching the skin, 1st pass/2nd pass/3rd pass routine, etc without worrying about stropping, touch ups, honing, rust, things like that.
Once you've got lathering and shaving technique down, you can take on all the other fun stuff. As said above read the wiki's as much as you can, and take it slow, speed will come with acquisition of technique, razorburn comes with trying to go too fast

Also pretty new to this but I tell you one thing that helped me a lot is you tube. There are a lot of pretty good short clips on there dealing with various aspects of SR shaving.
