Thread: Greetings from Tampa

Well I have finally joined the straight edge community. I am currently using a Parker razor with disposable blades, However, I am looking at transitioning to a fixed blade. I am currently looking at a Dovo Diamant. Any opinions on this blade?

Welcome to the forum. Dovo make pretty nice blades. They shave well.

Another option is to check the SRP classifieds. You can get a shave ready blade there for sure.

Hello Zach. Welcome to our little community from a fellow Floridian. We try to be as helpful as we can here, so if you have any problems please don't hesitate to ask. I'm only about a half-hour from Tampa, so if I can be of any help, please ask. Dovos are generally very good razors, but why don't you take a look in the classified section of this forum at some of the shave ready vintage razors available at very reasonable prices. You are going to want more than one razor anyway (believe me!) so why not start out with a great vintage shaver to test the waters, and if you enjoy the experience, you can lay out the bigger bucks for a shiny new razor later. Or, if you are like me, you may decide to stay with some of the classic razors from another era. Again, welcome aboard.

Thank you for the info. I did not go with the classifieds as the cost of the razors were slightly less then what I payed for a Dovo Diamant. I will also be getting my great great grandfathers razor in the near future. I do have a question when I transition to the fixed blade as opposed to the shavette is there much difference?

I'm a noob who also started with the Parker shavette, and I can say that it is not at all like the true str8 experience. The disposable blades are very harsh compared to a well-honed and refined str8 blade and not nearly as easy to navigate over the face. The short length of the disposable also resulted in my gouging myself more than a few times. I ditched the Parker in favor of a Dovo shavette, which is far more similar to a real str8 (provided you use the extended length disposable blades).

Sounds like you're committed to the str8, so the difference between the shavettes is a moot point. Enjoy your real str8s. Best advice is to have your first couple professionally honed to give yourself a frame of reference for what a good edge feels and shaves like. You'll eventually want to learn the skill of honing and acquire the necessary gear. It's all part and parcel of the str8 shaving experience. I'm still coming up the learning curve on this part.

Beware also RAD, "Razor Acquisition Disorder"--the highly addictive practice of collecting str8 razors. I bought my first last June, and I'm now up to around 20. Many here afflicted with RAD. No known cure. (So enjoy it!)

Well Csrund and Str8nsharp Thank you for the words. RAD I think I might have that already and my first one has not arrived and I already want a second one. I have noticed the disposable blades can be a bit rough at times especially if I shave all three directions. I decided with a Dovo Diamant.
