Thanked: 0Greetings from a youngin in Florida!
Hey all,
Just that i would introduce myself. I'm new to all of this and any tips for getting started on a short budget would be great. I've read some of the FAQs and the beginner's shopping list, but any words of wisdom would be great to hear. Thanks guys and greetings again.

Welcome weezus, there is much wisdom in the FAQ's and Wiki links. As for being short on funds I would recommend buying a razor from the classifieds here, most everyone here is interested more in perpetuating the hobby than turning a fast buck. Other tips take your time and get used to shaving, and most importantly have fun.

In no particular order:
1) Go slowly!
2) If starting with a straight razor, get it professionally honed first.
3) Keep your safety razor until you have a good 50+ straight shaves under your belt...don't try a full straight razor shave until you've mastered one cheek.
4) Don't fall in love with your first stop...you will nick it!
5) The preparation for the shave is every bit as important as your technique...or darn close anyway.
The last bit of advice is to learn YOUR beard. Feel your face and begin to get a handle on which way your beard grows on different parts of your face. Most guys have growth all over the place...I have patches that grow in circles! You can't know if your shaving against the grain, with the grain or across the grain if you don't know which way your beard grows. You might even draw it out on a piece of paper. That helped me.
Welcome and have fun!

Thanked: 0What do people think about buying razors from whippeddog.com? The razors are quality? They're really shave ready? So far, the customer service is making me want to buy already! I'm a sucker for good customer service, being in the service industry.
