    Default Hello all!

I'm new to the forum, been looking around for a few week while I was shopping for my first "true" straight. I've used a Dovo Shavette for several years now and switched to a Dovo Best Quality. It's taking some getting used to, I'm not sure if it's my lack of stopping technique or what but I can't yet get as smooth as I could with the Shavette.

    Hey there 62,

Welcome to the forum. Keep in mind that shavettes are pretty sharp and smooth. You'll get a really comfortable shave with a straight, but it's going to take some adaptation. Just make sure, or have someone else make sure that that blade of yours is really good to go.

That's going to be the main thing.....a truly shave ready blade. After that, it's your shaving and stropping technique, which will evolve.

I honestly think I dulled my razor that was professionaly honed by SRD. I believe I used too much pressure stropping the first time, would some paste clean this up or am I going to have to have it honed again? I used a DE with my Dovo blades tonight on the second pass and got an amazing shave though.

Send it back to Lynn. Keep one variable out of your learning mix. You have enough to focus on in terms of stropping, pressure, angle, lather, etc.

Let someone else worry about sharpness.

I do have a free second honing certificate so I believe that's what I'll do and eliminate that as a factor like you said. Thanks for the input.
