Thanked: 1Hi Everybody!
I figured I'd make my first post an introduction, as it seemed the most appropriate.
I'm a knife knut who has far too many kitchen knives and I needed something new to spoil myself with. I tried to stay away from straight razors, but I knew it was inevitable that I'd eventually catch the bug and never look back.
I've been interested in straights ever since my first straight edge shave at a barber a few years ago, but the one that sticks out in my mind was one I got in Portugal about two years back. I recall describing it as "a man spa". Hopefuly I can replicate even some of that, sometime fairly soon.
I have a need for an exceptionally smooth shave because of my equipment at work (I'm a full-time firefighter, up in Canada) and the fact that a smooth face means a perfect seal on my mask. Personally, I hate toxic smoke, and so should you! Haha
My good friend Pensacola Tiger directed me here a little while ago, and I decided I should now sign up, since I have my first straight coming to me soon. It's a Böker King Cutter, that should be truly shave ready. Needless to say, I'm excited to take the plunge, and somewhat nervous about the learning curve. I guess that's where the knowledge and expertise of all of you will come into play.
I can't wait to learn and see all of the great pics, etc.
Thanks everyone!

Thanked: 220Welcome, and good luck with your future straight razor shaves. You'll find a lot of good advice at SRP, and if you can't find the answers here, you won't find em'! (Also, I know what you mean by having a perfect seal on your B/A).

Thanked: 2204Welcome to SRP! A Boker is a very good razor, good choice. I hope you have a plain leather hanging strop? You need one, it is to be used just before each and every shave for 30-50 roundtrip laps. Your face will thank you.
BTW, please update your profile to include your location. That way you can be notified of any razor meets in your area.Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin
