    Default Hello from Minnesota!

    Hi everyone,
I've browsed these forums a little as I prepared to make my first straight razor purchase, and seeing as how I just finished my first straight-razor shave, I thought I'd officially join in.

Because I didn't want to make too much of an investment in case things didn't work out, I decided to start off with a Dovo Shavette and some Derby razor blades.

I must say, my first foray went pretty well. Pretty shoddy in places, but no nicks or cuts at least! Even without knowing what I'm doing, I feel like I still got a better shave than with my "fancy" Schick Quattro. I'm looking forward to how I'll feel a few more shaves down the road!

I look forward to chatting with all of you, and hopefully learning a lot.

    Welcome!

I started with a Dovo Shavette and experimented with assortment of blades using the red, green and black sleeves. After a few months I purchased a Dovo Bismark from Lynn and found it to be even easier to shave with than the Shavette.

    Good Luck on your journey!

C, Welcome. 'Grats on having such a good first shave. I wasn't that fortunate, but was pretty bitten by the bug.

Finally, the words 'joy' or 'enjoy' and shave are back together in the same sentence. With that good a start, it only gets better. Enjoy!

    Welcome from a fellow Minnesotan!

Hey, dude. Hope not to bump in to you at the local razor places (antique stores, antique shows, etc.). You're one of those Mind-thingies from the Spelljammer universe (space-oriented D&D), right?

Oh, you mean my name/avatar? Cthulhu is actually part of an entire cosmic-horror mythos created by H.P. Lovecraft. Check out the story The Call of Cthulhu some time! By the way, how much to straight razors usually go for in antique stores?

Here's a newbie question for you: What's the difference between the sleeves?
