Hello Everyone,
I've been loooking around the forums for some time now trying to glean as much information possible so my first experience wasn't a nightmare. I must say thank you to all the people who post helpful information on here. I hope to learn much here and maybe someday be able to contribute as well.

At this point in time i am just working on getting the lather down even though i have most of the equipment. As much as i like the warm lather it makes my neck freak out so right now i am trying to get a cold lather down and i'm having a hard time with it. Any suggestions on getting a good cold shave?

What kind of soap are you using. It is possible that it's not the heat, but your neck may be sensitive to the soap that you're using.
You're a smart man to take things stepwise. If you're new to wet shaving in general, it's great to get your lathering technique down before using the straight. As with many new ventures, reducing the number of variables makes it easier to analyze your results. Whether using warm or cold water shaving, put some water on your puck of soap and your brush in water before you get into the shower. When you get out, shake the excess water out of your brush (4-5 shakes), pour the water off of the soap into your lathering bowl, then load your brush with soap. Remember, you're not trying to build lather on the puck, rather you're just trying to make sure that there is adequate soap on the brush. Then whip up the lather in your lathering bowl. Gently slapping the brush against the wall of your lathering bowl will help incorporate air into the soap. The mistake most guys make is not taking enough time whipping up the lather. I generally spend about 3-4 minutes whipping up the lather. This may sound like a long time, but the results are incredible. Of course, how good of a lather you get depends on the quality of the soap you're using. If you haven't tried MWF (Mitchell's Wool Fat) you may want to try it - that is, unless you're allergic to lanolin:) It whips up an incredible lather. Although you may find it a little more expensive than some soaps, a puck lasts an incredibly long time and in the grand scheme of things is definitely cheaper than the crap in the can.

I have found that it is the warm water due to the fact that i have tried many shaving creams and soaps and when i use hot water i still break out but with cold everything is great. So at this point i will use that link provided to get a good cold shave done, thank you!
