Hello folks!
Hi there, my interest in straight razor shaving was peaked after I stumbled upon "the art of the straight razor shave" by Christopher Moss- very entertaining and intriguing (if you havent read its well worth a read!).
I've only ever shaved with an electric shaver (gasp! im only 23 though) and am getting sick of it not doing the job properly. I contemplated moving to standard razors, but something (maybe the purist) inside me made me think that if I'm going to start using a razor, I might as well go the whole hog. Will my skills as a podiatrist in scalpel technique aid the learning of this art?
By the way, from just a quick glance this forum looks like a very enjoyable one to participate in :)

Hi Rory,
This is a VERY enjoyable forum for me; and the art of the straight razor shave is an art worth learning. That book or document by Mr Moss is a really good introduction, I think. Go the whole hog. Certainly, go the whole hog. Anything less is cowardice.

just look around at our many fine vendors and select a starting kit that at least contains a strop and shave ready razor. then all you will need is a brush and some soap/ shave cream.
razor are like scalpels.. just sharper and you hold them differently.

Hello Rory,
welcome to SRP. I am a newbie at SRP too, been constantly shaving with straights for over a year now. Just go for it and take it slow. And as kalerolf (greetz ot the Netherlands!) wrote it, do not be afraid to ask.
Good luck!
