Hello From Northern California
I guess I should have introduced myself before I started posting, so here goes. I have been using a straight since last December when my wife (she's awesome) bought me a Dovo Shavette for Christmas, along with a fine badger brush and shaving cream from AOS. I didn't even know I needed to be rescued from cartridges. I have since shaved with a straight only. I now have a Hart 6/8 round point, a TI 7/8 with blonde horn scales, and an 8/8 Wade & Butcher, and all are excellent shavers, with the W&B probably being the best of the three. I use the shavette weekly for the back of my neck in between haircuts.
My father passed away a number of years ago, so I had no one to show me how to use a straight, until I found this site. I have learned so much from the videos and posts. I also hone my three razors, having learned from a few videos from Lynn and gssixgun. I have a DMT 325 for lapping, a Norton 4/8, and a 12k Naniwa. Through some trial and error, I am able to get some sharp and smooth edges on the three razors. I am still amazed at how close a shave I can get from one multi-directional pass. Thanks to you all for your suggestions, tips, and opinions!
