Greetings from Annapolis Maryland

I'm happy to finally be a "real" member. I've been a lurker for a few months now. I must say that this site has been a wealth of knowledge for me. I got tired or razor burn and bumps from disposables and decided to give straights a try. (I did this before I found SRP), My wife is a hair stylist and she had a shavette with a new blade. So I grabbed the old "gel" shaving cream and went at it. I'm shure you all know where this is going, let's say my first straight razor shave was more like a "blood letting." I looked like the guy in the movie "Airplane" who was trying to shave. Seemed like my whole face was covered in little pieces of toilet paper. My wife took her razor back, and the guys at work had a good laugh. I never give up that easy, so I let my face heal and stumbled onto this site. Thank God, if I hadn't found SRP, I probably would have thrown in the yowl by the second shave. Anyway, I bought a 5/8 John Holler wedge w/ horn scales and had it sharpened by a pro. I've been practicing my stroping and I must say that I've gotten the best shaves from that razor. I think I've been bitten by the "straight razor bug", because I now want to start restoring razors. I just finished my first restoration on Saturday. Can anyone tell me where I could post pics? I've seen a few on the site and I just hope I could get my work to look half as good as some of the razors I've seen on here. They are beautiful! Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

Welcome Grimm!! Learning all about the whole thing is where all the fun is. I saw your razor in the workshop, you are well on your way to the full enjoyment of the whole experience. 3 rules: preparation, pressure and angle. Get those down and enjoy your shaves!!

I'm in Annapolis also. Maybe we can meet up one day, have a beer, compare collections, and swap stories. Would be fun to chat with someone who actually enjoyed talking razors rather than just tolerating my slightly out of the ordinary hobby :)

Hello spinsheet and sixnipples. I'm glad to see other people live in the area that are into razors as well. For a while I thought i was on a island all by myself here. Anyway, I'm up for a beer and a chat. Just name the place and time.

I'm game to meet anywhere but Ram's Head in Annapolis has a killer happy hour! $2.50 drafts and free appetizers M-F 5-7. I like Thu, German sausages, potatoes, and sauerkraut. What better way to meet and talk straight razors? I can be there in 15 minutes :)

Just wondering if anyone else might be interested in meeting this upcoming Thursday at Ram's Head on West Street in Annapolis at about 5 - 6? Looks like so far it's two of us, the more the merrier. Beer and straight razors, what says "I'm a man" more than that? :)

Just wondering where everyone's at? Shavers, collectors, honers, restorers, all of the above? I've been shaving for about three years (well, with a straight razor, shaving for about 30). I just started honing and can actually get some of those eBay butterknives shave ready (still have a lot to learn thought). I'm a restorer wannabe, for now I guess you could say I'm a cleaner upper...
