Hello
Hi my name is James, I have been shave with a D/E Good-fellow open comb razor for the past six months, have really enjoyed the experience, I have recently ordered a Dovo Special straightwhich I should be receiving shortly, I have a couple of second hand 120 Gotta's but they need restoration and honing.
I trust that I will learn a lot from the experience of others.
Thanks James
PS I'm from New Zealand.

Welcome to the exciting world of straight shaving and to this wonderful forum mate. I too moved from DEs to straights in February... Never looked back since (I've now got a bunch of DEs gathering dust in the medicine cabinet, argh!).
I'm assuming you're already using a brush and soap/cream with your DE, if that's the case, you're all set to mastering the straight. I have to say though, straights are a whole different 'beast', especially if you've been using a Goodfella which is meant to be a mild DE (not used one myself).
Couple of things. Make sure the razor is honed by someone with experience at first and skin stretching!
Are you getting a strop too?
Anyways, have fun, I still remember my first shave, scary but exciting... don't forget to read the wiki pages on here, I found them to be a wonderful resource!
Cheers,
Ash

I have bought a second hand leather strop, that just needs a good clean and a dressing of neatsfoot oil, it has got some slight nicks in it but I hope to sand those out, with wet and dry paper of various grits.
Yes I use a omega pure boar bristle brush, and proraso sandalwood cream, getting a good lather is not a problem.
Cheers for the comments.
