Hi all
I am Alex, from Palm Beach, Florida. I currently go to school at UCF in Orlando. I am 22 years old. 4 years ago, my family went to Las vegas. I hadn't shaved in a few weeks. I started growing facial hair around age 14, so by age 18 a few weeks was very scruffy. My father and I were walking through the Mandalay Bay mall area, when we passed the Art of Shaving. There was a Barber in and free. That was my first straight razor shave, and I've wanted to start myself ever since. Yesterday, I found myself in the art of shaving at the Millenia Mall in Orlando, and I finally said, "what the hell." I bought a disposable blade straight razor and went home. I knew that the angles had to be right, and I shouldn't use pressure, and I took my time. I ended up nicking my chin (which I later found from the beginner forum here, I shouldn't have attempted:gaah:). All said and done, I really enjoyed the experience and got a great shave. I will take it slow now, and try and better my skills. I hope to graduate to a fixed blade and strop soon, hopefully with some much need advice from here.
Cheers:beer1:

Hi Alex, I'm also from WPB and have a daughter in UCF. Welcome to the forum, best information out there on straight razor shaving.
A shevette is actualy harder to learn than a true straight. There are some inexpensive razors here on the classified for you to start with. There is also whip dog specials that start you with inexpensive and effective equipment, razor and strop.
Next time you are in WPB send me a pm and maybe we can meet. Be glad to show and teach all I have learned in a year of straight razor shaving. Double O

Alex, go visit Double O. Don't hesitate.
There is SO much you can learn from actually talking and visiting with someone who has been at it for a while.

Welcome to SRP. I'm in the WPB area too. :gl:

Welcome Alex!!
You will find all the advise you can handle right here . . . and I mean that in a GOOD way. Read the Wiki, and don't be afraid to ask questions. The wealth of information available here is incredible, and everyone is more than willing to share.
The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.
